Top 10 RSA and Food Safety Questions Answered

1. Do I need an RSA to work in hospitality?

2. Is the RSA the same in every state?

No. Each state and territory regulates alcohol service differently:

• VIC: RSA refresher required every 3 years.

• NT: RSA refresher required every 3 years.

• QLD, WA, SA, TAS, ACT: RSA certificates issued by a registered training organisation (RTO) are nationally recognised.

3. How long does RSA training take?

On average, 3–4 hours online. Many AAAT students complete it in one sitting and receive their certificate the same day.

4. Do Food Safety Supervisor certificates expire?

Yes. In NSW, VIC, QLD, and ACT, the SITSS00069 Food Safety Supervisor certificate is valid for 5 years. After that, you’ll need to complete refresher training.
